Sudan:

Sudan is the biggest country in Africa, bordered by Egypt in
the north, and Ethiopia and Eritrea in the south, and is one
of the most pristine diving destinations on earth today.
Although the last few years have been tattered by political
unrest’s, these events are taking place far in the south,
thousands of kilometers southward. Far away from the region
of Port Sudan, where our cruise will departure and dives
take place.
Sudan is one of the birth place of very ancient civilization
and its mainly rural population is extremely welcoming and
eager to meet with foreigners as they have been deprived for
years of external contact, situation which is actually
improving.
Sudan is home to pristine diving destinations all part of
the Red Sea
The Nile, the longest river in the world (6,671 Km) runs
through the country from south to north.
The capital, Khartoum is connected by air to practically
every part of the world an all the most important airlines
operate there as well as Sudan Airways. A flight of about
five hours links Khartoum to Europe. It takes only two hours
to reach most important points in the Middle East. The
Connections within the country are provided by air, rail and
road services, besides there’sOf course the Nile.
The Sudanese people are peace loving and friendly. The
visitors to Sudan will find a variety of interests ranging
from wild life to archaeology, from the Red Sea to folklore
and handicraft. Visitors will also enjoy up to date
accommodation and several other amenities.
The official language in Sudan is Arabic, but English is
spoken widely throughout the country. The monetary unit is
the Sudanese Dinar.
Weekly closing day is Friday. The climate is hot and dry
from April to October, and pleasantly warm from November to
March. The rainy season, in Khartoum is July an August. Sand
Storms occur frequently from April to September.

travelers can visit, form archaeological to ecological
sites, along with many interesting activities in many parts
of Sudan.
One of the most interesting places in Sudan is the
Southern Region (Capital Juba), which is characterized by
green forests, open parkland, waterfalls and treeless swamps
abounding with birds and wild animals such as Elephants,
black & white Rhinoceros, Bongo, Common eland, Nile lechwe,
Lesser kudu, Oryx bisa, Zebra, Crocodiles, Hippopotamus,
Hyenas, Buffalos and the most extinct Shoebill.
The Jemez Tourist Village, situated in the heart of East
Equatoria is considered of special interest owing to the
abundance of game in that area.
The Red Sea, with the transparency of its water, the
variety of its fishes and the charm of its marine gardens
and coral reefs, is one of Sudan’s main tourist attractions.
There are places like the busy Port Sudan, Suakin famous
during the ottoman era, The Arous Tourist Village, at thirty
miles north of Port Sudan. Erkowit at 1,200 meters above sea
level is one of the most famous holiday resorts in Sudan.
4. Shopping in Sudan is one of the most exciting
activities, as weaponry such as daggers and swords in
leather sheaths, can be unearthed in the markets of Sudanese
towns. Some local men still wear these as part of everyday
attire, but this is becoming an increasing rare sight. As an
exotic souvenir, these weapons are an interesting purchase.
Among the tourist attractions there are the Oumdurman
camel market and the Arab Souk (market) where the visitors
may find every item of local handicraft form craved ivory
and ebony to reptile skins, silver and gold jewellery too.
One can even find giant ostrich eggs and a rich variety of
handmade straw objects. A good selection of Sudanese
handicrafts is to be found also in several shops in the
center and in reception halls of most important hotels.
In the western region, in around the town of Mellit,
Shoppers can find attractive carpets and some beautiful
pottery.
Those interested in the world of wildlife and ecology
will find the best purchases as ivory goods, stuffed
crocodiles and purses made from crocodile skin which are on
sale throughout the Sudan.
Travelers could also find very exciting entertaining
events such as Sudanese bands performing in larger towns, as
Sudanese music is an interesting blend of Arabian and
African, listening can be a pleasant experience.
Sudan -- Language and
Culture
The official language of Sudan is Arabic, and English is
also widely spoken.
Before the displacement caused by the civil war, the
northern two-thirds of Sudan was an area of Islamic culture,
while traditional cattle- raising customs remained strong in
